Leuca is a name that derives from the Greek λευκός (leukós), that is “white”, and is common to other toponyms such as Lèucade, a Greek island. According to Strabone, the promontory was originally named with the Greek name τα Λευκά (ta Leuká, the Whites), probably due to the white rocks perpendicular to the sea [3]. Hence the name of a very rare plant, present only in this area, called Cornflower of Capo di Leuca.
